Following a process during the 2010-11 school year that involved numerous stakeholders throughout our community, a decision was made to open Cordata Elementary School in fall 2011 and temporarily close Birchwood Elementary School to modernize it. Funding for the modernization of Birchwood is coming from a 2006 voter-approved bond in exchange for putting the District Office seismic retrofit work on hold. Retrofitting the District Office would have required relocating Central Services staff during construction, thus delaying the opening of Cordata or creating a need for temporary office space.

Dykeman architectural firm has been selected to begin drafting initial plans for the Birchwood Elementary modernization project. Dr. Baker met with the Birchwood Neighborhood Association in February to provide an update and answer questions.
