Cordata Elementary School leadership update

A Message from Superintendent Greg Baker

Dear Cordata Families,

I wanted to share the following leadership update with you. Following a staff meeting today at Cordata Elementary School, we announced that Analisa Ficklin will be leaving Cordata, and Julie Van Wijk will be the new principal of Cordata starting next school year.

Ms. Van Wijk is currently the principal of Panther Lake Elementary in Federal Way, a role she has held since 2017. Prior to that, she served as an assistant principal at high schools in Issaquah and Kent. Ms. Van Wijk started her career in 1994 teaching French, and in 2005, she became an International Baccalaureate (IB) program coordinator. She earned her bachelor’s degree in French from the University of Texas-Austin and her master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from Nova Southeastern University in Florida. Julie is currently working towards earning her doctorate in educational administration from the University of Washington.

Ms. Ficklin, current principal of Cordata, will be changing roles next year. She will be stepping away from being an elementary principal, at least for the upcoming year, and will be doing some district and school level leadership work in more of a support role.

I want to extend appreciation and gratitude to Ms. Ficklin for her leadership at Cordata.

Ms. Van Wijk is excited to meet and connect with Cordata students, families and staff.

Please join me in welcoming Ms. Van Wijk to Cordata and wishing Ms. Ficklin all the best in her next adventure!

Greg Baker
