Cordata
Elementary School
Cordata Elementary School opened in fall 2011. Cordata Elementary is comprised of three connected buildings in a natural setting. The school is a “green building” according to the Washington State Sustainable Schools Protocol (WSSSP), which is equivalent to LEED Silver. It includes additional features such as a full-size gym.
Tiger Construction, a Whatcom County company, started building Cordata in June 2009 as part of community bond measure passed by voters in 2006. The bids received were very competitive and the district took advantage of a limited time opportunity to get the federal government to pay for all of the interest on the bonds.
